Ilie Bolojan calls for new wage law and full-mandate government

Romanian caretaker Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan has emphasized the urgent need for a new wage law to address inequalities within the public sector and ensure long-term budgetary predictability. Bolojan stated that passing this legislation is a higher priority than securing the 770 million euros available through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), noting that predictable personnel expenditures are essential for maintaining fiscal balance.

Bolojan also called for the swift formation of a full-mandate government capable of issuing decrees and implementing budget adjustments. He noted that while his current minority cabinet has managed governance for the past three months, a complete government is necessary to reduce the deficit, reform state-owned enterprises, and prevent fiscal instability. The National Liberal Party is expected to propose a prime ministerial candidate once inter-party negotiations resume in September.
