Ilija Srdanovic emerges as potential Serbian political leader

Ilija Srdanovic, a professor at the Faculty of Medicine in Novi Sad, has become a prominent figure in Serbian politics. He is leading the ‘Student List – Students Win’ coalition for the upcoming early parliamentary elections scheduled for October 25.

Srdanovic, a cardiologist by profession, has been identified as a potential candidate for Prime Minister, though he has not been officially named as the sole contender. In statements to Radio Television Vojvodina, he noted that the list has ‘more than one candidate for all positions’ in a future government. He previously told Danas that he has no inherent political ambitions and remains, first and foremost, a doctor.

His political involvement grew following student protests and the tragic collapse of a station canopy in Novi Sad on November 1, 2024. Srdanovic has supported blockades and participated in protest demonstrations.
