İlke Özyüksel Mihrioğlu wins European Modern Pentathlon gold

Turkish pentathlete İlke Özyüksel Mihrioğlu has become the first European champion in the history of modern pentathlon after winning a gold medal at the European Modern Pentathlon Championships. Following the event, Mihrioğlu held a press conference alongside Serhat Aydın, the President of the Modern Pentathlon Federation.

During the conference, Aydın noted that the championships, held in Turkey from August 3 to 9, marked the first time the country hosted this specific event. He highlighted significant achievements for the Turkish team, including Kıvanç Taşyaran finishing 8th in Europe and Buğra Önal finishing 17th. The federation's primary long-term objective is to qualify both a male and female athlete for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Mihrioğlu expressed that winning the championship in her home country was a dream realized after 20 years in the sport, noting she had previously won a world championship at age nine.
