Illegal meat processing facility shut down in Shumen region

Authorities in the Shumen region of Bulgaria have shut down an unregistered meat processing facility located in the village of Studenitsa. A joint inspection involving economic crime units, customs, and food safety officials uncovered a site equipped with machinery for processing, preserving, and drying meat.

Inspectors seized approximately 1,080 kg of meat products, including raw meat, dried sausages, sujuk, fillets, and canned goods. These products lacked proper documentation, labeling, or identification marking. Additionally, officials found roughly 320 liters of liquid alcohol on the premises.

The facility, operated by a 61-year-old man, did not meet required sanitary standards. All seized meat products have been ordered for destruction at an eco-disposal site in Shumen. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated regarding the operation.
