Bulgarian food safety and livestock disease reports

Overview

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) has addressed several issues regarding livestock health and unregulated food production. In the Stara Zagora region, outbreaks of sheep scab were identified in Osetenovo and Petrovo, resulting in the establishment of protection and surveillance zones and restrictions on animal movement.

Concurrently, authorities have targeted unregistered food facilities. In the Plovdiv region, an unregistered production and storage site in Dalgopol was shut down, leading to the destruction of over one ton of unlabeled vegetable preserves. In the Shumen region, a meat processing facility in Studenitsa was closed following an inspection that uncovered approximately 1,080 kg of undocumented meat products and 320 liters of liquid alcohol. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated regarding the Shumen facility.
