Illicit tobacco crackdown forces store closures in Nottingham and Adelaide
In Nottingham, England, courts ordered the closure of four additional shops after a successful application under the ongoing crackdown on illegal tobacco and vaping products. The orders, granted on 7 July and the previous week, are part of a broader effort by authorities to target retailers selling prohibited items.
In Adelaide, South Australia, twelve convenience stores in the central business district were ordered to close for 28 days following a week‑long operation, dubbed Operation Shutdown, by the Consumer and Business Services illicit‑tobacco taskforce. The raid seized more than 8,300 packets of cigarettes, 36.4 kg of loose tobacco, 1,710 illicit vapes and other contraband. Minister for Consumer and Business Affairs Michael Brown warned, "This should serve as a clear warning to anyone involved in the sale or supply of illicit tobacco in South Australia."
