Ilva: Milan Prosecutor seeks rejection of appeal by steel plant

The Prosecutor General at the Court of Appeal of Milan has requested the rejection of an appeal filed by Ilva, which is currently under extraordinary administration. In a legal opinion filed ahead of a hearing scheduled for September 30, Prosecutor General Angelo Renna argued that the appeal should be declared inadmissible due to a lack of legal requirements and interest.

Renna specifically addressed the applicability of certain procedural norms, stating that a recent presidential decree from the President of the Court of Cassation does not constitute a ‘change in circumstances’ sufficient to alter the existing legal or factual framework regarding established health risks.

Parallel to these legal proceedings, the cultural impact of the steel plant's legacy is being addressed in Taranto through the theatrical production ‘Prometeo a Taranto. La fabbrica illuminata’. Directed by Joscha Zmarzlik, the play was developed alongside local residents, including a child who filed a legal appeal against the plant, aiming to process the city's decades-long industrial struggle through art.
