IMF Approves $700 Million Loan Tranche for Ukraine
The International Monetary Fund has approved the next tranche of its programme for Ukraine, amounting to roughly $700 million (about €600 million). The disbursement follows the IMF’s $8.1 billion loan package launched last year and represents the second major IMF loan to Kyiv since the Russian invasion.
The approval was granted even though Ukraine has not yet passed a disputed import‑tax bill intended to curb its informal economy. The IMF gave Kyiv an extension, moving the deadline for the legislation to July and postponing the September review, allowing the country to secure the funds while the parliamentary debate continues.
The tranche is expected to help bridge Ukraine’s double‑digit budget deficit and to support ongoing reconstruction efforts. Final board approval is slated for July, and the loan is seen as a signal to other donors, including the European Union, to continue their financial assistance.
