Brazil's Pix system praised, challenged, and expands abroad
The International Monetary Fund released a report describing Brazil's instant‑payment system Pix as "revolutionary" for expanding financial inclusion, lowering transaction costs and encouraging competition among banks. Meanwhile, Brazilian tourists are now able to use Pix for purchases abroad in several countries, including Argentina, Chile, Portugal and the United States, through intermediaries that convert reais to local currencies in real time. The service is already active in thousands of merchants, offering a domestic‑like payment experience overseas.
