Ukraine faces $139 billion debt repayment to IMF and World Bank by 2061

Data released by the Ukrainian Ministry of Finance indicates that the country faces a massive long-term debt burden, with projected repayments to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank totaling nearly $139 billion by 2061.

Between 2026 and 2061, Ukraine is expected to allocate approximately $32.95 billion toward debt service. The total principal repayment is estimated at $105.95 billion, which includes various currencies and IMF Special Drawing Rights. As of late August 2026, Ukraine's total state and state-guaranteed debt was estimated at roughly $215.55 billion.

The IMF has noted that Ukraine's current debt levels are unsustainable without further debt restructuring, budget adjustments, and continued international financial support. To manage these obligations, a memorandum signed in April 2026 with creditors, including the G7 and the Paris Club, allows for a temporary suspension of certain state debt payments until February 2030.
