Egypt slated for $1.7 bn IMF disbursement after seventh program review

The International Monetary Fund placed Egypt on the agenda of its Executive Board meeting on 30 July to consider the seventh review of the country’s Extended Fund Facility. The review will examine Egypt’s requests for performance‑criteria exceptions, policy consultations and the adoption of a second review of the Resilience and Sustainability programme. Approval is expected to unlock a new financing tranche of roughly $1.6‑$1.8 billion, adding to the existing $8 billion extended facility and $1.3 billion from the resilience programme.

Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said the government aims to finalise a national economic programme by the end of September. The roadmap will guide policy beyond the IMF‑supported reform effort, outline scenarios through 2030 and maintain macro‑economic stability. Madbouly added that, if the seventh review is approved, Egypt anticipates a $1.7 billion disbursement next week.
