IMF to conduct final reviews of Egypt's financing programs in late 2026
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is scheduled to conduct two final reviews for Egypt's financing programs during the fourth quarter of 2026. These include the final review of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the third review of the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF). Completion of these reviews is expected to allow Egypt to access approximately $2.3 billion in funding.
Egypt and the IMF expanded their cooperation in March 2024, increasing the EFF program from $3 billion to $8 billion, alongside $1.2 billion in additional funding through the RSF. IMF officials noted that the Egyptian economy has demonstrated resilience against regional conflicts, supported by improved macroeconomic indicators, including strong economic growth, declining inflation, and rising foreign exchange reserves.
IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva confirmed that the final review is slated for mid-December, with a mission to be dispatched accordingly. While supporting Egypt's sovereign right to make economic structural decisions, the IMF emphasized the importance of continuing reforms, particularly accelerating the state's divestment from assets to increase private sector participation in economic growth.
