Egypt economic reform and debt management

Overview

Egypt is focusing on macroeconomic stability through international financing reviews and domestic policy forums. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is scheduled to conduct final reviews of Egypt’s Extended Fund Facility and Resilience and Sustainability Facility in late 2026, which is expected to grant access to approximately $2.3 billion in funding.

Preparations are intensifying for the ‘Egypt Forum 2026’, scheduled for October 19 to 24 in the New Administrative Capital. Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly is overseeing the event, which will feature dedicated sessions to address public debt management and foreign currency resources to provide transparency and engage with public concerns. The forum aims to outline the ‘Egyptian Economic Transformation Program’ through 2030, marking a shift toward sustainable growth led by the private sector. Key objectives include enhancing production and exports, supporting small and medium enterprises, and attracting direct investment.

As the forum approaches, Cairo University has begun hosting academic listening sessions to gather expert opinions on economic challenges. Public interest appears high; the forum’s official website recorded over 10 million views and 50,000 registrations within its first five days, with significant engagement in sectors such as education, culture, and the labor market. The agenda also intends to cover social protection, digital transformation, and human development.

In coordination with these goals, the government continues to align the Ministry of Finance with the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources to ensure energy security, manage financial obligations to foreign energy partners, and improve asset management efficiency.
