Immigration authorities deport five Chinese nationals in Indonesia

The Atambua Immigration Office in East Nusa Tenggara has deported and issued travel bans against five Chinese nationals suspected of attempting to travel illegally to Australia via Indonesia.

The individuals, identified by the initials LH, LJ, WY, XC, and ZJ, were apprehended at Atapupu Port on August 18, 2026. Authorities noted that the group provided false information during questioning, claiming they intended to go fishing in Maluku, though their equipment did not match standard fishing specifications.

Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko stated that the agency is strengthening oversight to prevent the misuse of Indonesian territory as a transit route for illegal crossings. The five individuals were deported to their home country via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport on August 25, 2026.
