Imperia Sailing Week celebrates 40th anniversary
The 40th anniversary of ‘Le Vele d’Epoca – Imperia Sailing Week’ is scheduled to take place from August 28 to September 6 at Calata Anselmi in Imperia, Italy. Organized by the Municipality of Imperia, Assonautica Imperia, and the Yacht Clubs of Imperia and Sanremo, this edition is described as the longest and most extensive to date.
A central feature of the event is the International 12 Metre Class World Championship, running from August 28 to September 1. This competition features historic vessels associated with the America’s Cup from the 1960s through the 1980s. Notable participants include Kookaburra II, helmed by Patrizio Bertelli with Tommaso Chieffi, and Kookaburra III, helmed by Maurizio Vecchiola. Other competing vessels include Kz5, Kiwi Magic, France, French Kiss, and South Australia.
In addition to the racing, the event will host several historic boats such as Emilia, Vanity, and Thea for public viewing. The Italian Navy’s training ship ‘Palinuro’ and the ‘Stella Polare’ will also be present. Italian sailing figure Mauro Pelaschier will serve as the godfather of this anniversary edition.
