Imran Khan may be transferred to Islamabad’s new model jail
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar have indicated that incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan may be transferred to a new model jail in Islamabad. The facility, which has been under development since 2009, is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the coming days.
Minister Naqvi stated that all prisoners under the jurisdiction of Islamabad courts will be shifted to the new facility once it is operational. The jail is designed to accommodate 1,500 prisoners in its first phase. Currently, Imran Khan is serving a sentence at Adiala Jail following a corruption case and faces additional trials under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Information Minister Tarar added that the Islamabad administration will determine specific transfer timelines once the facility is fully functional. He also noted that authorities have placed Khan’s sisters in protective custody due to public order concerns.
