Islamabad new model jail development and prisoner transfers

Overview

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced the completion of a new model jail in Islamabad. The facility is intended to house prisoners currently held in Adiala Jail, with the first phase designed to accommodate 1,500 inmates.

Following this announcement, officials indicated that PTI founder Imran Khan, who is currently serving a sentence at Adiala Jail, may be among those transferred to the new facility once it is fully operational. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar noted that the Islamabad administration will establish specific timelines for such transfers. Additionally, authorities have placed Khan’s sisters in protective custody due to concerns regarding public order.
