Imran Khan medical care: Cricket legends urge Pakistan to provide independent treatment
Former Pakistan Prime Minister and cricket captain Imran Khan is facing increasing pressure from the international sporting community to receive adequate medical treatment while in prison. The Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA) has joined a group of former international captains in urging the Pakistani government to ensure Khan receives humane care and access to his chosen medical professionals.
West Indies cricket legend Brian Lara also expressed support for Khan, calling for “proper, independent medical care” and emphasizing that his appeal is based on “basic humanity” rather than politics.
The calls for medical intervention follow disputes regarding a Supreme Court order. While the court directed authorities to transfer Khan to Shifa Hospital for assessment, he was instead taken to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), where a medical panel declared him “medically fit.” Khan’s legal team has contested this, alleging that an eye infection has severely impacted his vision, leaving him with only 15 per cent sight, and arguing that the medical examination did not meet the court's directives or include his personal doctors.
