Imran Khan returned to Adiala Jail after medical examination
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was transferred back to Adiala Jail early Friday morning following a brief medical evaluation in Islamabad. The transfer follows a Supreme Court order issued on August 18, which directed authorities to move Khan to Shifa International Hospital for a multidisciplinary medical examination due to concerns regarding his deteriorating health, including vision issues and anxiety.
However, authorities instead transported Khan to the state-run Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS). Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated the change was necessitated by security concerns involving PTI supporters near Shifa Hospital. Following an examination by a team of specialists, including a cardiologist and an ophthalmologist, officials declared Khan medically fit to remain in prison.
The deviation from the court's specific instructions has sparked significant controversy. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and Khan's family have accused the government of willfully defying the Supreme Court. Khan's sister, Uzma Khan, reported that her brother alleged he is being treated cruelly in detention. Additionally, the PTI has filed a contempt of court petition against government officials, and the federal government has filed a review petition challenging the original court order.
