Supreme Court of Pakistan to hear Imran Khan contempt plea on September 16

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has scheduled a hearing for September 16 to address a contempt of court petition filed by Dr. Uzma Khan, the sister of incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan. The petition alleges that the federal government failed to implement a Supreme Court order issued on August 18, which directed the transfer of Imran Khan from Adiala Jail to Shifa International Hospital for medical examination.

The Supreme Court registrar’s office had initially returned the plea due to objections regarding the lack of a specific list of allegations against the respondents. After the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) addressed these objections, the petition was refiled and assigned case number 8/2026. Dr. Uzma Khan had also requested an early hearing, citing the deteriorating health of her brother, but the registrar denied this, noting that 94 other criminal original petitions of the same category are currently pending.

The hearing will be conducted by a three-member bench comprising Justices Shahid Waheed, Naeem Akhtar Afghan, and Ishtiaq Ibrahim. The contempt plea will be heard alongside the main case concerning Imran Khan’s health and medical requirements.
