Imran Khan's Solitary Detention Raises Health and Human Rights Alarm

Former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan has been held in near‑total solitary confinement for 33 months in Adiala Jail, under constant CCTV surveillance and denied regular human contact. His family says he has been unable to speak with them since March and that his health is deteriorating, citing worsening eyesight, a spinal injury from a 2013 accident and bullet wounds from a 2022 assassination attempt.

UN torture expert Alice Jill Edwards condemned the conditions, calling them a breach of the Mandela Rules and urging Pakistan to provide humane treatment and proper medical care. Khan’s son Kasim Khan appealed to the international community for urgent medical assistance, while the Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf party prepared a nationwide march demanding his release.
