Imran Khan's three‑year detention prompts nationwide protests in Pakistan

Amnesty International warned that former prime minister Imran Khan has been denied a fair trial, solitary confinement, and medical care for three years, calling on Pakistani authorities to restore his and his wife Bushra Bibi Khan’s rights to family visits and legal counsel. On the third anniversary of his imprisonment, Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI), announced coordinated protests across Pakistan and among supporters abroad. The protests aim to highlight what PTI describes as the illegal detention of Khan, who has been held since August 2023 on corruption and other charges that the party says are politically motivated. The government maintains that the legal proceedings are independent.
