IMSS advances major hospital projects in Baja California and Sonora

IMSS Director General Zoé Robledo conducted a work tour of Baja California and San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, inspecting a series of health‑infrastructure projects. He oversaw the conversion of Rural Hospital No. 69 into a General Zone Hospital, expanding capacity from 32 to 80 beds and adding new specialties and high‑technology equipment. In Ensenada, the second phase of General Regional Hospital No. 23 is nearing completion; once finished it will have 481 beds, 42 specialties and serve more than 269,000 people. In Tijuana, General Regional Hospital No. 20 received a 256‑slice CT scanner and other upgrades to improve diagnostic and specialist care. The replacement of Family Medicine Unit No. 2 in the Benito Juárez ejido of Mexicali is about 70 % complete and will serve roughly 13,000 residents. In San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, a new General Zone Hospital with 120 beds, 27 specialties, five operating rooms, intensive‑care, dialysis, chemotherapy and advanced imaging is being built with an investment of over 2.17 billion pesos. President Claudia Sheinbaum accompanied the tour in San Quintín as part of the government’s Plan of Justice for the region. The projects aim to modernise medical infrastructure and expand access for thousands of IMSS beneficiaries in the northern border area.
