IMSS-Bienestar to open 12,750 clinics by 2027

IMSS-Bienestar plans to open 12,750 medical clinics across 24 Mexican states starting in January 2027. The initiative aims to provide an additional 40 million consultations annually, focusing on urban and rural areas with limited medical coverage.

The expansion strategy includes adapting existing spaces, such as community centers and workplaces, into functional clinics. Each facility is required to have medical staff, basic equipment, internet access, and electronic clinical records. The program will offer 90 types of free medications for primary care conditions, including the management of chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension.

Clinics are scheduled to operate from 8:00 to 20:00 on weekdays and 8:00 to 14:00 on weekends. Patients requiring specialized care will be referred to secondary-level hospitals.
