IMSS conducts pediatric oncology surgery sessions in Mexico City
The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) completed a Pediatric Oncology Surgery Session at the Hospital General ‘Dr. Gaudencio González Garza’ within the CMN La Raza medical center. The initiative provided complex surgical interventions for 16 patients aged between three and 17 years.
Multidisciplinary teams addressed various conditions, including tumors, vascular and lymphatic malformations, and pathologies affecting the lungs, liver, chest wall, and genital region. Dr. Salvador Cuevas Villegas, head of the Surgical Pediatrics Division, noted that these sessions aim to reduce waiting times for urgent clinical cases.
The hospital currently performs between 2,000 and 2,200 surgeries monthly, making it the high-specialty medical unit with the highest surgical volume in the country. IMSS also issued a call for early detection, advising caregivers to monitor symptoms such as abnormal mass growth, persistent lymph nodes, and unexplained weight loss.
