IMSS medical surgical operations in Mexico
Overview
The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has conducted various high-complexity surgical procedures in Mexico City.
In one instance, surgeons at the Hospital de Especialidades del Centro Médico Nacional (CMN) Siglo XXI successfully performed a seven-hour liver transplant on a 47-year-old patient suffering from liver cirrhosis caused by primary biliary cholangitis. The patient has since resumed daily activities following a recovery period.
Additionally, the Hospital General ‘Dr. Gaudencio González Garza’ at the CMN La Raza medical center held a pediatric oncology surgery session. This initiative provided complex interventions for 16 patients, aged three to 17, to address conditions such as tumors and vascular malformations. According to Dr. Salvador Cuevas Villegas, these sessions are intended to reduce waiting times for urgent clinical cases at the facility, which maintains one of the highest surgical volumes in the country.
