IMSS expands healthcare services in Veracruz and Querétaro

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has announced new initiatives in the states of Veracruz and Querétaro to expand access to healthcare and improve patient preparedness.

In Veracruz Sur, IMSS is inviting independent workers—including barbers, seamstresses, taxi drivers, and beauticians—to join a simplified social security scheme. This voluntary program allows non-salaried professionals and small merchants to access medical, hospital, and pharmaceutical services, as well as disability pensions, retirement funds, and childcare benefits. Registration can be completed online or at local sub-delegations using a Social Security Number, CURP, and RFC.

In Querétaro, IMSS is implementing obstetric tours for pregnant women starting at 34 weeks of gestation. These tours, held at regional hospitals in San Juan del Río, allow patients and their companions to visit admission, surgery, and hospitalization areas. The program aims to build confidence by familiarizing families with hospital processes, labor signs, breastfeeding, and family planning before delivery.
