IMSS Guanajuato reports 17 organ procurements this year

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Guanajuato has reached 17 organ and tissue procurements so far this year at the Hospital General de Zona (HGZ) No. 21 in León.

The most recent procurement involved a 60-year-old woman from León who passed away due to gastrointestinal bleeding. Following her family's consent, medical teams successfully obtained two corneas, which have been sent to the Tissue Bank of the State of Mexico to restore sight to two patients currently on waiting lists.

Dr. Brenda Ivette Caballero Bustos, the hospital's donation coordinator, emphasized the importance of family dialogue regarding voluntary donation to ensure medical teams can act appropriately in critical moments.
