Mexico launches agricultural input and credit program for maize and wheat
The Mexican Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRICULTURA) has announced a new operational strategy for the 2026-2027 Autumn-Winter agricultural cycle. The program focuses on consolidated and direct purchases of basic inputs and bio-inputs for white maize and wheat to reduce production costs and strengthen food sovereignty.
For white maize producers with up to 20 hectares in Sinaloa and Sonora, the scheme offers direct access to seeds and fertilizers. Wheat producers in several states, including Baja California, Chihuahua, Coahuila, Jalisco, and Sonora, will also benefit from these consolidated purchases and commercialization incentives.
Through the ‘Cosechando Soberanía’ program, eligible producers can access credits of up to 1.3 million pesos, interest rate subsidies, and production protection instruments via FIRA financial intermediaries. The digital platform for consolidated purchases will open on September 30, 2026, with registration occurring between September 30 and October 15 to ensure input delivery by late October.
