Mexican agricultural policy and support programs

Overview

In late September 2026, the Mexican Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development announced the ‘Cosechando Soberanía’ program for the 2026-2027 Autumn-Winter cycle. This initiative focuses on direct purchases of seeds and fertilizers for white maize and wheat to lower production costs and bolster food sovereignty. Eligible producers in states such as Sinaloa, Sonora, and Baja California can access credits up to 1.3 million pesos and interest rate subsidies.

Following this executive action, the Senate's Agriculture Commission approved its 2026–2027 Annual Work Program. The commission’s legislative agenda aligns with broader agricultural goals, prioritizing food security, water efficiency, and technological innovation. The program also highlights the preservation of native corn and the inclusion of women and youth in rural communities.
