IMSS hospitals conduct successful multiorgan procurements

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has reported significant organ donation successes in 2026 through its regional hospitals.

In Saltillo, the Hospital General de Zona No. 2 performed a multiorgan procurement from a 54-year-old patient following brain death caused by an ischemic stroke. The donation, which included corneas, kidneys, and musculoskeletal tissue, is expected to benefit more than 80 people. The corneas were sent to Centro Médico Nacional La Raza, the kidneys to UMAE No. 71 in Torreón, and bone, tendon, muscle, and skin tissues were processed by the Instituto Mexicano de Biotecnología.

In Mexico City, the Hospital General de Zona No. 27 Tlatelolco completed its first multiorgan procurement of the year following the brain death of a 27-year-old woman. This procedure yielded a liver, both kidneys, corneas, and bone tissue. These organs were distributed to the Centro Médico Naval, Hospital General de México, the Cornea Bank at CMN La Raza, and the Tissue Center of the State of Mexico.
