IMSS implements digital identification cards for Mexican employers

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has implemented a mandatory Digital Identification Card for employers, replacing the previous physical version. This transition aims to streamline administrative procedures and reduce the need for in-person visits to sub-delegations.

Experts note that the digital format allows for more efficient management of employer identification, making it readily available for electronic consultation. This change is expected to benefit a wide range of businesses, including the more than 765,000 employer registrations in Mexico that involve fewer than nine workers, by reducing administrative burdens and travel time. For larger organizations, the shift is expected to increase operational efficiency and improve control over which individuals are authorized to perform transactions on behalf of the employer.
