IMSS Oaxaca completes sixth cornea procurement of 2026

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) in Oaxaca successfully completed its sixth cornea procurement of 2026. The procedure took place at the Hospital General de Zona (HGZ) No. 1 “Dr. Demetrio Mayoral Pardo” following the death of a 68-year-old man who had expressed his wish to be a donor during his lifetime.

Following the procedure, the donated corneas were transported to the Corneal Tissue Bank at the Unidad Médica de Alta Especialidad (UMAE) Hospital General “Dr. Gaudencio González Garza” within the Centro Médico Nacional La Raza. There, the tissues will be evaluated and assigned to patients awaiting transplants to restore their vision.
