IMSS reports 17,304 dengue cases in Mexico

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) has reported 17,304 notified cases of dengue through epidemiological week 27 of 2026. Of these, 2,479 individuals required hospital stays. This figure represents an approximate 50 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2025, when 27,534 cases were recorded.

Despite the decline, the disease remains present in various states, including Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chiapas, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Sinaloa, and Sonora. Additionally, cases have been reported in states where the disease was previously not present, such as Aguascalientes, Morelos, and San Luis Potosí. Experts attribute the continued presence of the Aedes aegypti mosquito to environmental factors like rainfall and rising temperatures linked to global warming.

IMSS has urged the population to participate in eliminating mosquito breeding sites by cleaning patios and rooftops and removing containers that collect water. Health officials also recommend using repellent and wearing clothing that covers arms and legs, particularly during peak mosquito activity hours (6:00–7:00 and 18:00–19:00). The institute warned against self-medication, noting that certain anti-inflammatory drugs can increase bleeding risks, and advised seeking medical attention for symptoms such as abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, and lethargy.
