IMSS reports increase in surgeries and medical consultations

Zoé Robledo, the Director General of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS), reported significant increases in medical productivity and service coverage for the period of January to July. During a press conference led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, Robledo stated that the institution performed 1,140,000 surgeries, marking a 36 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023.

In addition to surgical increases, the IMSS recorded 19,735,000 specialty consultations, a 37 percent rise over the previous year. This growth is attributed to the hiring of more medical specialists across 88 clinical and surgical specialties, the opening of new hospitals, and increased shifts. The institute also reported 64,991,126 family medicine consultations.

Robledo noted that the expansion of services is supported by an infrastructure of 1,122 operating rooms across 366 hospitals. Efforts are also being made to implement digital scheduling for specialty consultations to improve management and prevent agenda closures.
