IMSS upgrades MRI and CT scanners at major hospitals in Mexico City and Jalisco

The Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) inaugurated a new 3‑Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) unit and a 256‑detector computed tomography (CT) scanner at the Hospital de Especialidades of the Centro Médico Nacional La Raza in Mexico City. The equipment is expected to deliver more precise, faster and less invasive studies, expand diagnostic capacity, shorten waiting times and benefit thousands of patients.

In Jalisco, IMSS’s Unidad Médica de Alta Especialidad (UMAE) at the Hospital de Especialidades of the Centro Médico Nacional de Occidente completed the installation of a third high‑definition CT scanner. The new device replaces a 20‑year‑old system, offers 256‑slice imaging expandable to 512 slices, operates 24 hours a day, can scan the whole body in two to three minutes, supports patients up to 300 kg and improves comfort in the imaging suites. Both upgrades are part of IMSS’s broader modernization strategy to enhance specialized medical care across the country.
