Mexico expands health outreach: liver disease campaign, universal credentialing, mobile mammography

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) in Baja California and San Luis Río Colorado, Sonora, launched a public campaign for World Hepatitis Day urging beneficiaries to prevent fatty liver disease through weight control, regular exercise, balanced diet and avoiding excess alcohol.

In Sonora, the state health program surpassed 50,000 registrations for the Universal Health Service credential, targeting older adults and people with disabilities. The effort is part of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s nationwide initiative to broaden medical coverage.

During August, IMSS will operate a mobile mammography unit across five regions of Coahuila, offering free breast‑cancer screening to women over 40. The service will rotate among hospitals and health centers in the Centro, Norte, Carbonífera, Sureste and Laguna zones.
