Mexico manages measles response, social welfare payments, and economic shifts

Mexico is managing several significant domestic developments involving public health, social welfare, and the economy.

In response to a measles outbreak in Xalapa, Veracruz, authorities have launched intensive vaccination campaigns. While the national trend for measles shows a decline with over 36 million doses administered, local efforts in Xalapa and Yucatán aim to reinforce epidemiological barriers.

The Secretaría del Bienestar is completing the September-October 2026 payment cycle for various social programs, including pensions for seniors, women, and people with disabilities. Payments are being distributed based on the first letter of beneficiaries' surnames.

In education, the SEP reported reaching 20 million scholarship recipients in 2026 and noted that the removal of the COMIPEMS exam has improved high school placement rates.

Economically, the Mexican peso has shown slight appreciation against the US dollar, trading around 17.20, as markets await upcoming monetary policy decisions from Banco de México. Meanwhile, the Mexican Stock Exchange (BMV) saw a slight uptick following global market trends.
