Inaep establishes full collegiate body for research ethics in Brazil

The National Instance of Research Ethics (Inaep), an agency linked to the Brazilian Ministry of Health, held its first ordinary meeting with its full membership in Brasília. The collegiate body consists of 30 representatives from the scientific community, including 15 titular and 15 substitute members selected through a public notice. These members represent all regions of Brazil and bring diverse expertise to the group.

Instituted in 2024, Inaep is part of the National System of Ethics in Research involving Human Beings (Sinep). Its role is to establish and guide ethical guidelines for scientific research involving human subjects. Health Minister Alexandre Padilha stated that this regulatory framework aligns Brazil with international best practices and aims to increase the country's participation in multicenter studies.

In addition to scientific specialists, the body includes representatives from the Ministries of Health, Education, and Science, Technology, and Innovation, as well as Anvisa, Confap, and the National Health Council.
