INAIL reports rise in occupational diseases and releases asbestos catalog

INAIL has released its annual report and a new catalog regarding asbestos exposure. The annual report, presented at the Chamber of Deputies, indicates a significant rise in reported occupational diseases, which reached 98,312 cases—an 11.3% increase compared to 2024 and the highest level in 26 years.

Regarding workplace accidents, there were 600,000 reported cases in 2025, a 1.2% increase from the previous year. This includes 519,000 cases involving workers and 81,000 involving students. Fatal accidents were recorded at 1,198 cases.

Additionally, INAIL published its 2026 catalog on asbestos exposure. This document utilizes data from the National Mesothelioma Registry (ReNaM) and Regional Operational Centers to identify professional and non-professional exposure scenarios. The catalog aims to improve prevention strategies by identifying both common and uncommon sources of asbestos contact, which are linked to serious conditions such as mesothelioma and lung cancer.
