INAPA celebrates 64th anniversary and regional water leadership

The National Institute of Potable Water and Sewerage (INAPA) celebrated its 64th anniversary with a thanksgiving mass and floral offering at the Altar de la Patria in Santo Domingo. During the commemorations, Executive Director Wellington Arnaud highlighted the institution's recent progress and its recognition by the Organization of American States (OAS) as a regional leader in water and sanitation.

Arnaud noted that the Dominican Republic was the first member state to respond to the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI) by presenting concrete initiatives with identified funding and viable models. He cited the Gurabo stream sanitation project in Santiago, which has relocated over 1,000 families to dignified housing, and the Universal Sanitation Program for Tourist and Coastal Cities, which aims to restore 140 kilometers of coastline including areas like Punta Cana-Bávaro and Boca Chica.

Arnaud also emphasized the support of President Luis Abinader, stating that current investments in the water sector are five times higher than in previous administrations to address long-standing social debt in water and sanitation infrastructure.
