FIRST Global Challenge robotics competition opens in Incheon
The 2026 FIRST Global Challenge, an international youth robotics competition, is being held at Songdo Convensia in Incheon, South Korea. Organized by the US-based non-profit FIRST Global, the event brings together approximately 186 teams representing 185 countries. The competition features students aged 14 to 18 who design and build robots to address global issues.
This year’s theme, ‘Igniting Innovation’, focuses on wildfire prevention and recovery. Participants use their custom-built robots to complete missions simulating various stages of wildfire management. The event is expected to draw around 4,500 attendees, including competitors, mentors, and spectators.
LG Electronics is a major sponsor of the event, using the platform to showcase its robotics vision and physical AI technology. The company is hosting an exhibition booth featuring its humanoid robot, LG CLOiD, to engage with the young innovators. The competition marks the first time the event has been hosted in South Korea.
