Incheon International Airport wins grand prize for AI aviation safety

Incheon International Airport has been awarded the grand prize in the ‘AI Utilization Excellence Case’ category at the 2026 Public Institution AI Innovation Challenge. Hosted by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Science and ICT, the event recognized outstanding AI innovation and public service improvements across various public sectors.

The airport's winning project involves an AI-based aviation safety management system that provides real-time monitoring of aircraft from landing to takeoff. By utilizing AI predictive data, the system enhances the ability to detect and respond to potential risks and anomalies, aiming to eliminate human error and safety blind spots in airport operations.

Other notable winners at the event included Korea Western Power, which received the grand prize in the AI Service Demonstration category for its AI-driven gas turbine operation and inspection technology. Additionally, Korea Electric Power Corporation presented an AI service designed to detect signs of isolation in single-person households by analyzing power usage patterns.
