Incheon International Airport aviation safety enhancements

Overview

Incheon International Airport has implemented new technologies to improve aviation safety and operational monitoring. The airport corporation deployed four patented laser guns, one at each runway, to manage bird strikes. These devices offer a control range of approximately 2,000 meters and are intended to be particularly effective during nighttime and winter months when migratory bird activity is high.

In addition to wildlife management, the airport has integrated an AI-based aviation safety management system. This system provides real-time monitoring of aircraft from landing to takeoff, using predictive data to detect risks and anomalies. This AI initiative was recognized with a grand prize in the ‘AI Utilization Excellence Case’ category at the 2026 Public Institution AI Innovation Challenge.
