Incheon Mayor announces industrial vision to target 5% economic growth

Incheon Mayor Park Chan-dae has unveiled the ‘Incheon Future Industry Re-powering’ vision, aiming to achieve an average annual economic growth rate of 5% during his term. The strategy focuses on the ‘ABC+E’ framework, which integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI), Bio, Contents, and Energy to transition the city from a production-centric hub to a high-value research and development center.

Key initiatives include the establishment of the Incheon Institute of Bio and Science in Songdo to train 300 specialists annually and support new drug R&D. In the energy sector, the city plans to transform Yeongheung Island into an ‘AI·Energy Park’ by combining clean energy production with AI data centers. The city aims to expand data center capacity to 3GW long-term and develop offshore wind power to a total of 4.4GW.

To support these industries, the city will pursue AI transformation in logistics and connected mobility, specifically targeting the Cheongna area for future car R&D. Additionally, Incheon plans to reduce energy costs for local businesses by utilizing waste cold energy from the Songdo LNG terminal and seeking further electricity rate discounts.
