Italian towns roll out inclusive projects for people with disabilities

A series of initiatives across Italy this summer focus on inclusion and autonomy for people with disabilities. In Falconara a new pastry shop, Dolci Sapori, opened under the Atlante cooperative to provide work opportunities for young people with disabilities. Palermo hosted an institutional meeting on disability involving regional officials and local associations. Alatri inaugurated a “Casa dei diritti e dell’inclusione”, a barrier‑free apartment group offering professional training. In the south, Nardò held an “Autism Beach Party” to promote neuro‑diversity awareness, while Grottammare organised a Pinocchio‑themed art workshop for children. Diano Marina hosted the fourth “MareAbilia” health‑and‑inclusion day on the sea, and Ladispoli arranged a “Mare Senza Barriere” boat outing for participants with sensory disabilities. Marina di Priolo introduced a unique accessible pedal‑boat at the AbilBeach beach. Celano opened a third group‑apartment for disabled youths, funded by PNRR funds. Crotone launched the “Mare Dentro” itinerant project aboard the confiscated boat Mavisu, linking legal, environmental and social inclusion themes. The Amalfi Coast began a 2026 anti‑pollution service using electric boats equipped with advanced waste‑collection technology. Ferrara’s Centro Perez ran the “ConosciAMOci” theatre and cooking labs for adults with acquired disabilities. Additional events included a vacation program for disabled youths in Misano, a €110 000 maintenance investment for Casa Aura senior residence, and a donation of a “JOBette” wheelchair‑accessible beach chair to Castiadas. Together these actions illustrate a nationwide push to remove barriers, create accessible public spaces and foster community participation for disabled citizens.
