Inclusive disability projects across Italy

Entities: Enrico Trantino · Cirò Marina · Alessandro Grando · Giuseppe Aloisio · Mare Senza Barriere

Overview

June 2026 saw a surge of maritime inclusion initiatives. The Lega Navale Italiana’s Fano section hosted the sixth “Vela No Limits” sail for thirty disabled and senior participants, while the AIL‑backed “Sognando Itaca” project held a ceremony in Pesaro despite wind delays. In Bari, the “Sognando Itaca” velotherapy tour offered sailing sessions to around a hundred blood‑cancer patients, coinciding with notable youth regatta victories. Porto San Giorgio organised a Paralympic Open Day with 2.4 mR and Hansa 303 boats, and Basilicata’s Paralympic Committee ran open‑day sport therapy sessions, including paralympic tennis and multi‑sport demonstrations. Taranto launched its first free parasailing course for adults with disabilities, using Hansa 303 vessels equipped with cranes.

July expanded inclusive water‑sport programmes. Codigoro’s “Corso di Vela Inclusivo” will provide a free sailing course for ten socially vulnerable youths, while Genoa’s Lido hosted the third “Sport per Tutti” series, offering windsurf, SUP, swimming and a mixed‑ability relay. Martinsicuro and Barletta installed specialised beach chairs to improve sand access. Ladispoli announced the “Mare senza Barriere” day (31 July) for up to 50 participants, and the “Buonvento – Tutti a bordo” tour carried autistic youths along the coast. Ancona, Messina, Tortoreto, San Salvo, Livorno and other towns organised para‑sailing, jet‑ski, inclusive fishing and solidarity events throughout July.

Late July and early August featured the Naval League’s “Navig‑Abile” sailing day in Cirò Marina, a mobile blood‑collection drive near Lotzorai, and Ladispoli’s inaugural “Mare senza Barriere” boat event with 21 vessels. Concurrently, Catania, Cosenza and other cities launched training, digital‑skill and internship programmes for people with disabilities, broadening the inclusion agenda beyond sport.
