INDAP irrigation projects generate six jobs per $10 million CLP invested
A study conducted by the consultancy Comov reveals that INDAP irrigation projects in Chile significantly boost regional economies. During 2025, the Institute for Agricultural Development (INDAP) mobilized approximately $32 billion CLP through its irrigation program, improving water availability across 29,917 hectares via 3,188 projects benefiting 6,199 people.
The research highlights that for every $10 million CLP invested, six jobs are created. In 2025, these projects generated a total of 17,415 jobs, consisting of 52% specialized labor and 48% non-specialized labor. Furthermore, over 50% of the resources—totaling roughly $16 billion CLP—were directed toward regional providers in services, commerce, and infrastructure, fostering local economic links.
The study emphasizes the essential role of state subsidies, noting that $28.2 billion CLP of the total funds were public subsidies used for the accumulation, conduction, technification, and distribution of water resources for family farming.
