Survey shows over a third of vacationing workers contemplate job change

A survey conducted by the research institute Appinio for the job platform Indeed found that more than one third of respondents consider changing jobs while on vacation. The study, which sampled 500 men and 500 women aged 18‑65, also revealed that 61.6% of participants work during their holidays, but only 13.2% enjoy doing so. Among those who work while on holiday, 64.8% say the experience makes them question their current employment situation.

The survey indicated that 15.9% of respondents have sent at least one job application and 11.3% have already secured a new position. Labor‑law expert Martin Nebeling noted that, despite 66% of employees being reachable during vacation, there is no general legal obligation for workers to respond to work communications unless extreme circumstances arise. The findings highlight growing concerns about work‑life balance and suggest employers should consider clearer policies on after‑hours availability.
