Independent Investigations Office clears Victoria Police of wrongdoing
The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO) has concluded its investigation into the June arrest of a man by Victoria Police officers. The incident occurred on June 7 at a liquor store in a commercial plaza on Wilson Street, where officers arrested an individual who was not permitted on the premises.
The investigation was initiated after the man reported suffering an injury during the arrest. However, the IIO’s chief civilian director reviewed evidence—including police reports, medical records, CCTV footage, and radio transmissions—and determined that the injuries did not meet the threshold of ‘serious harm’ as defined by the Police Act. Consequently, the investigation has been closed.
